@tweezak I agree. I’m in Oregon City just south of Portland but I’d say we have more leopard slugs. I build rock houses for the snakes because they eat them.
@sillyheathen Yeah I was talking about the big green ones with black spots. We had tons of them on the farm. Now here in the suburbs we have lots of little slugs and I have seen garter snakes eating them. We don’t use any chemicals on our garden and rely on the natural predators. They do a great job.
@kittykat9180@sixsmith I haven’t tried picking it either, for the same reason I don’t go fishing. In neither case do I enjoy eating the thing I end up with. I’m married to a southerner who loves catfish, grits, and okra but she eats all of them by herself.
@SylvreKat legend is that one of the first football coaches was named Ed Rabb and the team mascot was changed in his honor. When i was in school, the head coach’s first name was Jack so it was then Jack’s rabbits
Right across the Red River from me (in Moorhead, Minnesota) one of the college team’s name is the “Cobbers” based off a anthropomorphic corn-cob. I always found that one at best strange & at worst, mildly inappropriate, especially since it’s a Lutheran/Christian school.
Not college, but high school. Colorado State U’s teams are the Rams, and I was told that that’s the reason why the
Fort Collins High School football team is the Lambkins.
I think banana slugs should have been reserved for Oregon State University
@tweezak OSU has an appropriate mascot. There are loads of beavers in Corvallis.
@sillyheathen @tweezak
ISWYDT!
@sillyheathen I grew up south of Corvallis. You couldn’t walk more than 10 minutes without stepping on a slug.

Upvote for the circle of life…
@chienfou @tweezak banana slug happiness
And for some reason geoduck is pronounced gooey-duck.
@shampshire And as a tribute I make it a point to pronounce words that begin with geo as gooey-…
gooey-graphy
gooey-political
Gooey Metro (car)
…etc
@shampshire

@macromeh
Wouldn’t have expected something from my area to show up here
If you ever tried picking okra, I think Delta Stat’s mascot makes a bit of sense.
The first thing I thought of after reading the question was “fighting okra”
@sixsmith
I have not tried picking okra.
/showme a platoon of okra in combat ready military gear and vehicles. They should be in a sports arena waiting for the opposing team.
@jo2y Here’s the image you requested for “a platoon of okra in combat ready military gear and vehicles. They should be in a sports arena wa…”
@kittykat9180 @sixsmith
Have you tried kicking Oprah?
@macromeh
No. I don’t think that would go well with her security team.

How could you not have the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on that list?
@DLPanther
Demon deacon seems a bit of an oxymoron.
@DLPanther @kittykat9180 I thought it was a redundancy…
@DLPanther @paulgdeaton
I think you may be correct.
Stanford Trees
Presbyterian College Blue Hose
@kittykat9180 Stanford Tree, singular
How could you miss Scrotie the Scrotum, mascot of the Rhode Island School of Design
Not a college, but I always found I smiled a bit when I saw reference to the Macon Whoopees.
One vote for the Tulane Green Wave.
I guess it’s a team, or a loose definition of one: the a capella group at Tufts University is named the Beelzebubs, nicknamed the Bubs.
Texas A&M college
@davisbnb Apparently, the Mechies aren’t into team sports.
USC Trojan Condoms
Don’t tell me you never thought that.
Also in St. Louis are the Webster University Gorloks
my hometown is the Atlanta Rabbits
@ironcheftoni I’ll see your Rabbits and…raise?..lower??..whatever. I give you the Benson Bunnies.
@SylvreKat legend is that one of the first football coaches was named Ed Rabb and the team mascot was changed in his honor. When i was in school, the head coach’s first name was Jack so it was then Jack’s rabbits
Richmond Black Widow Spiders & the VCU Ramit
@mycya4me I read that as the VCU Vomit
@SylvreKat You must be thinking of your Home teams! NOT VCU. BTW I did not go to either school!
